The DC Arts Center Non-Discrimination and Inclusion Policy
The DC Arts Center (DCAC) is committed to fostering an environment of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in all aspects of our work, programming, and community engagement. We believe that artistic expression flourishes when all individuals are treated with dignity and respect, and when barriers to access, opportunity, and creative freedom are actively dismantled.
Non-Discrimination Statement
DCAC does not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, color, national origin, citizenship, religion, creed, sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, age, disability, physical or mental health status, genetic information, pregnancy, marital status, parental status, socioeconomic status, veteran status, housing status, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local law. This policy applies to all aspects of our operations, including but not limited to employment, board and volunteer participation, programming, partnerships, artistic curation, and audience engagement.
Commitment to Equity and Accessibility
DCAC recognizes that systemic inequities and historical exclusions have shaped the arts and cultural sectors. We are committed to:
Centering marginalized voices in our programming, leadership, and decision-making processes.
Proactively addressing barriers to participation by providing accommodations and alternative engagement methods for artists, staff, and audiences.
Implementing fair pay and equitable hiring practices to ensure opportunities for underrepresented artists, administrators, and creatives.
Anti-Harassment and Accountability
DCAC is a harassment-free space. Discriminatory or oppressive behaviors, including but not limited to racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, and other forms of bias, are not tolerated in any form. Any concerns regarding discrimination, harassment, or exclusion can be reported confidentially, and DCAC is committed to a transparent and restorative approach to resolving conflicts and addressing harm.
Beyond Compliance: Cultivating a Culture of Inclusion
DCAC does not simply comply with non-discrimination laws—we strive to be a leader in equity, justice, and liberation in the arts. We recognize that inclusion is an evolving practice, and we commit to ongoing learning, dialogue, and adaptation in response to the needs of our community.
This policy is a living document. We welcome feedback and collaboration as we continue to build an organization where all artists, audiences, and cultural workers can thrive.
